Crouch, Hold... Engage
I was watching "Any Given Sunday" last night following another great fines meeting at the long bar and pondering that line from Al Pacino: "Any given Sunday you're either going to win or lose. The difference is whether you can win or lose like a man." Big Al, what a biscuit! On this particular Sunday we won, comfortably as it turned out (3-1) against a UJ side, a few members of which looked a lot like "Hungry Ed", that enormous fellow who loses every year to the half-pint Japanese chap in the Nathans Famous Hot Dog Eating Championship (53 hotdogs in 12 minutes - we've got to get this guy onto the Pregos!). What is impressive however is that we won despite playing some very average hockey. It was clear early on that we just weren't firing and we knuckled down to make sure we walked away with the points. Well done men, a good win.
All round, what a great day it was. A couple of us went through early to make up a small "cap-hacity crowd" for Hugh Bladen Creebo and the 2nd team who thumped some or other collection of punters. Prior to their game our 1st team gave WITS a Springbok Rugby score: 16-0. That's almost as many as XFC's scored in 9 years with the MFP! Almost. Following the 2s, The Ballerinas were robbed, losing 2-1; but a few of the particularly lovely members of their side bounced back to join Anja (sp?), Steyno's better half who was introduced to the side (Steyno where have you been hiding her mate?) and Claire to keep up our tradition of super hot supporters.
Just look at him feeding in front of the hungry... honestly.
As promised, Stoks drank to Adam from his leaky shoe - the true lot of the modern dad. Stoks, you're the man.
... and Skeg brought his "Ice Man Cooling Gel / Uber-Chilli KY Extravaganza" which he left at the table for a little while (he actually left it on the back seat of my car last week, but that's another story). Fronk needed a bit of this after taking a ball in the face. As he later admitted, it's the first time in a while that a ball has hit him higher in the face than the chin! Hmmm...
Bladen wore it pretty hard for a great session with the whistle - despite or perhaps thanks to a few Double John Deers to his name. Thanks and self. Doug took his first ever Punchy Carver Suit following which things went a bit crazy - Steyno definately got hit the hardest and gave Skeg (who we discovered is an "ambiturner") a run for his money on the style stakes with some impressive form - I believe the below was inspired by Rummsveld's t-shirt of the day at the top of this post: the old "crouch, hold... enga..." wait a minute.
Finally then, the picture below which I found on my phone this morning... Trent... sorry bud, that whole fight we've had on the go for the last while... Apparently this lovely pink hat was the clincher. Sorry you had to find out this way.

Update: Sorry this post is so late in arriving (and a bit average having a re-read)- I've had a crazy week. Looking forward to seeing you all at Club Night tomorrow evening.
