Waragi? Yes please, I'll have a double...
It was always going to be a messy weekend: Bachelor's Party, thrumping the Aussies and of course our final game of the season and year-end fines. I can say however that this was even more extreme than I'd expected. I feel dreadful.
I don't have any pictures from the weekend, again my experiment with duty delegation has not worked very well. I will load them if/when I get them from Dougie and Harps.
We lost 1-0 against Eds, not really sure how - I arrived late... again! Third week in a row, this time no flat tyres or getting lost, I just woke up in my jeans and shoes thanks to a call from Harps 5 minutes into the game! The Colony Arms, thanks for nothing!
Back to the game itself, this a well planned defeat I thought as it takes us just out of that dangerous 2nd position on the log and in so doing out of the promotion zone! The kind of forward thinking the MFP's are famous for. Well out gents.
Skeg had a blinder and won himself a clear Man of the Match. Only one contender for the potty this week: Muzzy, what's there to say about his game? Not the best, although his tackle of Skeg was probably the most clinical I've ever seen him pull off. The Punchy Carver went to Easty who managed to get kicked out of the Colony Arms on Saturday night. Speculation is rife about how you actually manage to do this, I mean it's the Colony? Cane and Cream soda served in plastic bottles with the necks hacked off, Kareoke and e-TV's finest late night adult entertainment broadcast through the place... what he did to get thrown out of this kind of environment is tough to imagine.
Great to have A Ron Jury and Sneaky "Wet Burp" Evans back for a run; as Ron so eloquently put it, "It's like I got up from the table for a DHS and sat back down a year later! Nothing's changed." With what we know about the Jury boys and DHS's that story's not necessarily that unbelievable. Another guest appearance by Dan the Man Nicol who joined us again from the Mighty Dodo's in Cape Town. Full of praise as always for the more organised and talented MFP's, he showed us why he's not quite ready to make the jump to professional sport. A bit more time with the MFP's, Dan, and who knows! Brilliant to have you down again and thanks for the mention.
With the game successfully behind us we headed into the fines meeting of the season. FC- Harps was feeling the pressure a bit and overcorrected with a bottle of Ugandan Waragi (which lasted about an hour) dealing us some savage street-justice.
Gazza took a moment to award me my Pewter Mug, engraved and everything. A great honour to join such an esteemed list of recipients of the MFP highest award, much appreciated gents, thanks.
Season awards were dished out first up to free up some time for the real stuff later on. Top goal scorer was Mallers again, Best Newcomer went to Trent despite it being a dead heat between him, Skeg and Steyno on votes. Our dynamic keeps managed to attend more games and hence took the trophy. The Nic Stip Most Improved Player award went to Commie who's had a great season - well played mate, well deserved. And finally the MVP went to Grays who took this hands down. Brilliant season Grayzie; his day made doubly exciting with the announcement that he's about to become a dad! Congrats mate and as Harps put it, "still some lead in the pencil!"
The novelty fines kicked off after this, I won't remember all of them, but some of them included Muzzy's handcuffs to try and keep both his hands together, Nathan's Bug-Eyes and full police outfit for seeing better and getting stronger on the ball - what a site, Commie a most original ghost outfit and a 6-pack of warm Windhoeks for neglecting his fines meeting duties over the season; loved up Cliffy looked dashing in his new furry pink handbag and Barbie Balloon, Gazza received some well earned KGB for consistently arriving at the game with a hangover you could break rocks on; Skeg was fined again for not bringing any of his or Kath's sisters to the game, although they made up for this about a thousand times over after the fines meeting - more on that later; Trent got a pad of clean sheets for next season although he commented that there were lines on them and hence weren't strictly "clean". We know, we just thought this was more realistic! Easty looked noticeably relieved when he received a picture of Marco with directions to the Wanderers on the back. Finally a solution for Easty who's clearly taken the big man's departure very badly, playing only two games since Marco went to find fame, fortune and marriage in the UK.
I'm not sure, things are pretty blurry after my first couple of fines, the Waragi was flowing, but I do remember Easty and Steyno taking some big strain on the promised "Death", the tiger changing hands a record number of times.
A great day out boys - and a big thanks to Harps for all his efforts at getting us to ruin our reputations with such style.
To change the subject slightly and return to an issue I've discussed before: what is it about the MFP's that makes us attract the most incredibly hot women? It's probably not the hockey - and as dead-sexy as Steyno and Easty parking tigers off the balcony can be, it's hardly roses and dinner at the Westcliff? This brings me to the other big news from the day for yours truly: tragic news for the ladies of the Ballerina's, Beavers and Crackas, I've fallen in love. Yip, completely and utterly smitten. And as I'm about to leave - what a pity. Kath, you absolute legend, in an attempt to remedy her sisters' FTPs brought through the quite spectacular Alicia after fines who stole the afternoon, as well as a couple of the hearts of the Men's E side who were shaken to the core by this 6 foot bombshell. As Kath commented to her a few times: 'It's amazing, Jimmy has completely fallen in love with you." It's true - I have. To quote our ever eloquent scribe, definite marriage material. Watch this space...
On a final and more personal note guys, just to say a huge thanks for the last couple of years, the last two in particular. It's been a great honour to captain this side and I've loved it. With the number of youngsters coming through the ranks the MFP's have, I think, come a long way and are looking good for the future. A particular thanks to the senior guys for their help and efforts in keeping this side going as they do. A big thanks too to all the lovely female supporters who're there week in and week out providing us with the inspiration to keep going despite the many Manhattan/Colony nights before!
Lads, a real privilege to play for this side - don't take it for granted. Pretty sad to be saying goodbye to you all for now... I will be back to lay waste to Australia in 2008. With that I'd like to announce that the MFP Exco has managed to secure agreement from Trent to take the reigns from me for next season, I trust you'll help him slot into the skipper's role and give him all your support. Good luck gents and all the best.
Over and out,
Pop
Update: Latest word out there is that our resident speed merchant Dougie Sykes has agreed to be Vice Skipper for next year. Great news, thanks Doug. Good luck for 2007!
